Mozhi

Mozhi is a iPad app designed to help children learn Tamil, one of the oldest living languages in the world.  We have designed this app with fun, engaging games to make language learning exciting for children.

When your child learns Tamil, they aren't just picking up a new way to say "hello" - they're stepping into a living tradition that has endured for over 2,000 years.  Tamil is one of the longest-surviving classical languages in the world, attested since around 300 BCE.  Tamil has extraordinary depth: ancient origins, an independent literary tradition, and a vast body of classical literature.

The roots of Tamil literature lie in the Sangam period. Most scholars place the historical Sangam literature era from around 300 BCE to 300 CE - a golden age that produced an extraordinary body of poetry and prose capturing the essence of human experience.  Composed by over 470 poets, it covers themes of love, war, governance, and nature with a sophistication that still astonishes scholars today. Beyond culture, research consistently shows that raising children bilingually has measurable cognitive benefits.  Researchers have shown that the bilingual brain can have better attention and task-switching capacities than the monolingual brain, thanks to its developed ability to inhibit one language while using another.  Bilingual children also appear to have somewhat better skills than monolinguals in understanding others' perspectives, thoughts, desires, and intentions.
